Alex Vostokova
Alex Vostokova is a dance artist, emerging choreographer and director working across live performance, improvisation and film as well as teaching and facilitating in Ireland. She made her CoisCéim debut in PALIMPSEST in 2024. Over the past 4 years she has been awarded from Arts Council and Dance Ireland to further creation and artistic development. Alex is driven by sociological concepts as well as surrealism, bridging the gap between emotive embodied practice and an interest in multidisciplinary collaboration.
Her work to date has been curious about dance as an incredibly resilient artform as well as movement that isn’t ‘perfect’ but rather coming from an emphasis on the fact that this is such a communal medium.
Alex is influenced by contemporary dance, krump acrobatics and physical theater practices. She performed her first solo work ‘3 Sides to Shuji and why he’s all alone again’ in 2021 at Irish Youth Dance Festival and screened her film ‘Tasting an Organised Dream’ at Dancer from the Dance Festival and Light Moves Festival in 2023. She was appointed associate artist of Dance Limerick with her current research ‘Logic of Wrong and Rehearsed Carelessness’.
Alex is also interested in community engagement, leading workshops with Dance Theatre of Ireland, Dublin Youth Dance Company, Finglas County Council and the MA program at University of Limerick. Alex performed in ‘Within This Party’ by Stereo 48 Dance Company at Theatre de la ville in Paris and was part of their residency at the Lyon biennale de la danse in 2023. She has worked with companies such as Anton Lachky, Liz Roche, John Scott, Catherine Young, Junk Ensemble, Trickster and Pan Pan Theatre in Ireland.
