Joan received the 1997 Irish Times/ESB Best Costume Designer for her work on the Gate Theatre's PINTER FESTIVAL. She designed the costumes for THE COLLEEN BAWN at the Abbey Theatre. Other Abbey productions include KEVIN'S BED, THE WAKE, GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER DO!, A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE, MACBETH, THE ONLY TRUE HISTORY OF LIZZIE FINN, PHILADELPHIA HERE I COME, OBSERVE THE SONS OF ULSTER MARCHING TOWARDS THE SOMME, SIVE, and THE LAST APACHE REUNION. Joan also designed the costumes for the London production of SIVE (Watford Palace and Tricycle Theatres), OLEANNA at the Gate, and RUMPLESTILTSKIN, THE THIRD LAW OF MOTION, and SOMETHING'S IN THE WAY for the Peacock Theatre; THE CHASTITUTE at the Gaiety and LICKING THE MARMALADE SPOON at the Project Arts Centre.
