Set Designer
Francis trained at Wimbledon School of Art. Current work includes, the award winning, THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE for the Druid Theatre, Galway, seen in Ireland, London, and now on Broadway where it has won four Tony Awards. Francis subsequently designed Martin McDonagh's LEEANE TRILOGY for Druid (London, Dublin, Sydney). For this and also for TARRY FLYNN at the Abbey, Dublin, Francis won the 1998 Irish Times/ESB Best Set Designer Award. He designed a new Arthur Miller play, MR PETER'S CONNECTIONS for the off Broadway Signature Theatre, THE COLLEEN BAWN for the Abbey, and TARRY FLYNN at the Royal National Theatre, London. Other designs include THE WAKE for the Abbey, Dublin; ENTER THE GUARDSMAN for the Donmar, London; THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and SING TO THE DAWN, two musicals in Singapore. Other work includes AFTER EASTER (RSC), THE CLEARING (Bush, London), and for the Abbey, Dublin, SHE STOOPS TO FOLLY and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. Opera includes: ARIADNE AUF NAXOS (Castleward), MAY NIGHT (Wexford), LA VIE PARISIENNE (D'Oyly Carte), and THE BARBER OF SEVILLE (English Touring Opera).
