Ferdia Murphy
Born in Dublin, Ferdia trained at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London. He was nominated for best design at the TMA [Theatre Management Association UK] awards for his design for Dancing at Lughnasa at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast. He was made an honorary scenographer by OISTAT [International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians] at PQ07 in Prague. He was nominated best set designer at the Irish Times/ESB Irish Theatre Awards 2006 for his designs for the School for Scandal and True West at the Abbey. Other designs include Henry IV part I, Ensuite, A Quiet Life [Abbey], Don Gregorio [Wexford Festival Opera], Amadeus, Making History [Ouroboros], Shooting Gallery, Blasted [Bedrock], Dinner with Friends [Gúna Nua], Macbeth, Tales from Ovid, Richard III, Mutabilitie [Theatreworks], Blown [Theatre Royal, Plymouth], True West, The Blind Fiddler [Lyric, Belfast], Pasades [Operating Theatre], The Chance, Dealer’s Choice [Primecut], The Consul, Inside Out [Cochrane, London], Sweeney Todd [Bridewell, London], In the Dark Air of a Closed Room [Loose Canon], Playing from the Heart, Rudolf the Red [The Ark], Devotion, Bumbugs and Bees [Team], Top Girls, Dolly West’s Kitchen, Interludes, The Triumph of Love, The Dispute, Camino Royale [Samuel Beckett Centre] and Alternative Miss Ireland VI-IX [Olympia]. Ferdia made his production design debut in 2007 on the feature film Porcelain.
