CoisCéim Dance Theatre takes multi-award winning show Knots to venues throughout the UK this November/December.

Generally regarded as one of the best and most original shows in Ireland (2005) and in Edinburgh (2006) Knots won Best Production at the Dublin Fringe Festival and a Fringe First in Edinburgh. The show has since played at the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale as part of the Venice Biennale Dance Festival in June this year and arrives in the UK following 2 performances at the Ludwigshafen Festival in Germany in October.

Directed by virtuoso choreographer Liam Steel of Stan Won't Dance, this text-meets-movement dance theatre show unapologetically untangles the complexity of human relationships by juxtaposing brutal and high-octane choreography with the insightful text of Scottish psychoanalyst R.D. Laing.

Knots is an 80-minute series of vignettes with dancers David Bolger (Artistic Director of CoisCéim), Jen Fleenor, Geir Hytten, Eddie Kay, Emma O'Kane and Diane O'Keeffe taking audiences on a head trip through the minefield of relationships. Through a series of passionate physical and verbal confrontations the dancers work to unravel the twists, turns and convolutions inherent when we entangle our life and body with someone else's…and the sad, insidious patterns our minds and hearts are compelled to repeat forever.

Contains material of an adult nature.

It is 11 years since CoisCéim presented Straight with Curves and Reel Luck at the Spring Loaded Festival in London where it received ecstatic reviews from audiences and critics alike.

“forget Riverdance - dance invention is in far greater supply in the current programme on offer from CoisCéim … and the result is a fabulous entertainment” Emma Manning, The Stage April 1996

Since then, CoisCeim has been producing world-class dance theatre and has built a reputation for creating quirky yet poignant and exhilarating dance theatre that often has a unique take on love and relationships.

CoisCéim Artistic Director, David Bolger

Under the direction of David Bolger the award winning company has gone from strength to strength. For CoisCéim, David has choreographed over eighteen dance works for stage and a dance feature film “Hit & Run” which premiered in 2002. He has choreographed special dance spectacles for the company which were presented at the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics (2003); the launch of the O'Casey Bridge in Dublin (2005) and a piece entitled “Intimate Details” involving over 70 performers for the Opening Ceremony of the Ryder Cup in Ireland (2006). As a free-lance choreographer, David has worked on many shows in London including “The Relapse”, “The Coast of Utopia” by Tom Stoppard, and “Loves Labours Lost” all directed by Trevor Nunn for the National Theatre; and most recently “The Man of Mode” (2006) directed by Nicholas Hytner. David also works in opera and has choreographed “La Traviata” for English National Opera and “Sophie's Choice” for the Royal Opera House.
