COISCEIM CRACKS OPEN THE MAGIC OF NUTCRACKER with a re-interpretation of the classic ballet
As an invigorating tonic for New Year, CoisCéim Dance Theatre presents its magical production of NUTCRACKER by David Bolger which will premiere in Projects Arts Centre, Dublin on January 13 2005, 8.00 pm. (Previews: January 11 and 12 at 8 pm).
NUTCRACKER by CoisCéim’s Artistic Director, David Bolger is adapted freely from Hoffmann’s original dark tale of 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King'. Locating the action in a modern office setting, he transforms 9 to 5 living into a magical, geometric, richly textured world where there are a fantastic variety of things to behold and an interesting array of characters to meet. Delving into emotions of jealousy, loss and greed, NUTCRACKER brings you on an adventure that is fascinating, fun and poignant, and is a New Year treat for adults and children who still dare to dream!
NUTCRACKER’s stellar cast includes Miguel Angel, Blanca Arrieta Albandoz, Aisling Doyle, Sascha Engel, Tom Hickey (as Drosselmeier), Robert Jackson, Icleiber Klaus, Emma O’Kane, Diane O’Keeffe and Lisa McLoughlin (as Clara).
The production features music by Tchaikovsky using a combination of recorded music and live flute and cello. Set and costume design is by Joe Vanek, lighting design is by Paul Keogan and sound design is by Ciaran Eaton.
